Kachin

Character design Expression sheets Backgrounds Trailer board 2024—2026

Kachin is a shirt shop. You run it. Everyone who walks in wants something, and every one of them has a face.

Remulla Games' customers talk, order, and judge what you made for them. Jaime built that cast and the room it queues in: character design, the expression and pose sheets an animator works from, the shop set itself, and the board for the trailer.

Eleven customers,
eleven sheets

One page per customer: the poses the game needs, and the marks that tell an animator what to move. The notes are the artist's own, left in Spanish because that is what a sheet gets handed over as.

Before the ink

A design is found, not drawn once. Each of these pages is the same character redrawn across the sheet until the proportions hold — and one of them checks the answer the only way that counts, in flat black.

Silhouette first

Idle poses roughed, then the silhouette checked in flat black. The checklist on the page: “silueta MUY clara · formas redondeadas · la ‘corona’ es su pelo recogido · ojos y cuernos pequeños · manchas como si fueran granitos”.

Four passes at a gown

The same character redrawn left to right until the proportions hold — then a clean pass and two head expressions.

Building the lawyer

Suit, briefcase and slouch, tried three ways. The heads on the right fix the register: bored, startled, unimpressed.

Weight for the boss

Hat, cigar and centre of gravity. Each pass pushes the mass lower until the character reads as immovable.

A shop is
a good place
to hide

Din Dino sews shirts for a living now. He used to work for other people. The trailer opens on his wall — maps, pins, red string, and a clipping whose headline reads (drawn) corpse found.

The cast changes register with it: same pencil, different weather. Suits, hats, cigars, and one boss who takes up most of the frame.

The wall — trailer key art

The ones still looking

Six designs in one line-up, sized against each other so the pecking order reads before anyone speaks — the boss fills the frame, the muscle stands in front, and the lawyer waits at the edge with a briefcase.

The whole trailer,
in pencil

Before a frame was painted the trailer was timed out on one page: measuring tape, scissors, a shirt held up, a shop full of reactions, the cut to noir, and the logo. The four promises it makes, in the order it makes them —

  1. 01 ¡Conoce a tus clientes! Meet your customers
  2. 02 ¡Crea tu diseño! Create your design
  3. 03 ¡Antes de acabar el mes! Before the month is out
  4. 04 Y huye de tu pasado en la mafia And outrun your mafia past
